The concept that mental disorders arise from disrupted connections between different components predates modern brain research. Using MRI brain imaging, new insights are now being gained into the structure of brain networks and changes in people with mental disorders. In this talk, the basics of studying brain connections (the so-called connectome) were explored in more detail, and it was explained how the studies of the connectome can yield a better understanding and ultimately a better therapy for mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
